We are excited to announce the development of a new petrochemical facility at the Salalah Free Zone (SFZ) in Dhofar Governorate, dedicated to producing maleic anhydride—a critical ingredient in the production of biodegradable plastics. This project, currently in the early development phase, is set to establish a robust value chain around LPG, methanol, and ammonia, all of which are readily available within the free zone.
Supported by Al Baleed Petrochemical Company (ABP), our initiative aims for an annual production capacity of 50,000 tonnes of maleic anhydride, addressing the rising global demand fueled by the growth of biodegradable plastics.
We have partnered with MAIRE, a leader in sustainable technology solutions, and its subsidiary Conser, a renowned technology licensor for high-value derivatives and biodegradable plastic by-products. Conser has been selected to provide the essential technology licensing, process design package, and catalyst supply for our new plant in Salalah.
As part of our collaboration, Conser will supply their proprietary maleic anhydride technology, along with comprehensive technical support, from construction and commissioning to full operational startup. Additionally, a key catalyst necessary for the production process will be provided.
While maleic anhydride is crucial for biodegradable plastics, its applications extend beyond that. It is a vital component in polymers and coatings used across a range of industries, including construction, automotive, marine, and energy.
